I only had 9 months left so I figured it was safe to drive out my car back to Ft Ord after leave home. Put our GI camp gear to good use & enjoy a bit of what CA had to offer, Big Sur, many beatiful state parks, maybe even a national park or two. Got in very late Sun night. At revalie the very next morning they announced we were be marched over after breakfast to the auditorium for a convocation. There they announced we were headed for overseas. Needless to say, I was disappointed & had to turn right around & drive my 62 black Ford ex-patrol car right back home in NE. Took along fellow surveyor along the way who was from Kemmerer, WY staying overnight with his family there. I have a few picture's on Midway Island where we drink all the beer they had on the island. At least this is the story we got. Saw gooney bird's (a rare bird where Midway Island is 1 of 2 places wh |
